GEAR in the White Rose City 2012

 

 

Sharps and Flats of GEAR arrived at the York Fair, York, PA on Sunday October 7, 2010.  Conveniently backed up to the race track building Maestros had a strong 30 amp service.  Several had access to water.  Showers were available in the Toyota Arena across the street.  The entire rally was held in the Toyota Arena.  Rehearsals were in the performance area allowing equipment to stay in one place a week.

 





PreRally rehearsals were held Sunday afternoon, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning.



Charles Marston enjoyed directing GEAR for the third year.

Morning Coffee still comes early at GEAR.   Maestros lived up to their reputation of performing musically while enjoying their vocal and instrumental talents.

Sharps and Flats soloists added to the morning coffee hour programs.   In true tradition of the founding of Maestros the parasols gave a delightful and colorful touch for the early morning coffee-donuts crowd.  Please refer to the TAB FM Founder 1981  to read  of the founding of Frustrated Maestros in 1981.  Read about the tradition of parasols.

The yearly Ice Cream Social was held indoors making a good venue for playing and involving the audience in singing and participating in the chorus.  Lucky Maestros were served first!



After the hour long involvement with the crowd Maestros led a parade to the outdoor exhibits.

Sharps and Flats convened for their chapter meeting.  Elected

officers are  Bruce Taylor, President, Sandy Martin Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer John Reever,  National delegate Jim Berwick and Alternate Delegate Roxie Marston. 

 

 



Our Sharps and Flats chapter won the chapter fair contest!  The award was announced at the evening entertainment.  A combo provided music for the crowd visiting the Maestro table.

The traditional military salute was preceded with a salute to Civil War Music in tribute to the Gettysburg area.    Tunes heard by the chorus and band were DixieDoodle,  Bonnie Blue Flag,  Yellow Rose of Texas,  Love Me Tender, Home Sweet Home,  When Johnny Comes Marching Home,  Tenting Tonight and Taps.   A slide show with narration explained the tunes.

Maestros showed up in their  red jackets at the Volunteer Recognition evening.  The chapter was awarded a 15 year recognition of  Sharps and Flats.  A Maestro won a door prize.

GEAR’s traditional parade was accomplished by the few remaining Maestros.  Marching drums and a hip in need of replacement brought on real ingenuity  to provide the parade beat!

South Central ---6 State--Area Rally

September 24-30, 2012

 

the South Central Frustrated Maestros

rehearsed and performed at the

Oklahoma Exposition Center

in Shawnee, OK.

 

 

 

Five coaches brought  7 performers.  Lee and Rich Carr provided the instruments, a dulcimer, a mandolin and a “marimbala”, a tuned bass rhythm instrument that Rich calls his “Thumper”  …

Several new singers joined the Maestros during rehearsals and performances.  By the end of the week South Central had 7 new members from 6 coaches. All were enthusiastically welcomed.    Jim Frazier  brought extensive experience with gospel music and led gospel tunes.

Features included solos and the tradition parasol strut.

The chapter hosted a well attended pizza luncheon for the 6-State Maestros and past and present  National FMCA officers. The area resembled a golf cart corral.

A very productive business meeting affirmed that the chapter should continue. A slate of officers for 2013 was elected.  An extensive discussion was conducted on ways to attract new members.



Music was provided for three full breakfast meals. Music featured a variety of musical styles.   Those in attendance congratulated the maestros  on their presentations.

The “Front Porch Players, Lee and Rich Carr, provided music for the Ice Cream Social.  A full pint of ice cream was served each person attending.   

It was a very successful week!     Maestros and potential Maestros are welcomed  September 9-14, 2013 in Sedalia, Missouri Appreciation to Bob and Kay Easton for the pictures and information from South Central 6 State Rally.

 

Music Camp --sponsored by Sharps &Flats of GEAR.

The annual Music Camp, sponsored by  Sharps and Flats chapter of the Greater Eastern Area, GEAR, spent  a productive and fun week together  in Gettysburg, PA October 2-7, 2012. 

The destination for a week of music was Drummer Boy Camping Resort at Gettysburg, PA   



 The camp used Lincoln Hall for morning rehearsals, evening activities and jammin’.  Music Camp was directed by Charles Marston.  Music Camp mornings were dedicated to rehearsing and exploring music.

Fun evening activities were directed by Cindy Peterson.  John and Nancy Reever accumulated great prizes prior to the camp.  Unfortunately they had to turn south after FMCA in Indianapolis due to concerns for John’s vision.  Prizes, loaded in the Reever coach, were divided among coaches and arrived safely at music camp.   

The Saturday rehearsal was moved to a pavilion.



Afternoons were free for sightseeing in this historic Civil War area.  Different music camp attendees took advantage of tours.  It was noted in the museum that Civil War Horns had bells that faced backward.  The bell position was to provide music and a moral boost to the weary soldiers.



Music Camp enjoyed a hot dog roast and a dinner at Hoss’s Restaurant in Gettyburg.

Rocky Mountain Ramble Rally...Successful!

The Rocky Mountain Rockers Frustrated Maestros moved into the Cam-Plex in Gillette, WY on September 6 to begin their Pre Rally in the campground “square.”  The Ramble Maestros celebrated twenty years.
Tom Rothdiener presented each Maestro with a dangle. Celebration picture is at the end of this blog.

Sunday was the official volunteer entry date and Maestros began practicing on the stage in the facility.  There were about 30 choral members and a good size band rehearsing. The musicians were directed by Gary Robinson, president of the Original Chapter in the Western Area.          

Maestros eagerly fulfilled a request to play on Wednesday night for entertainment. They played music that could be danced by all.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday the group provided breakfast entertainment.

A small group played for the Volunteer dinner and the Ice Cream Social.   Several talented Maestros shared their solo and duet talents during the rally.

A highlight of any Maestro event is time spent with each other.  There was time for catching up, remembering and frivolity when gathering at the tables inside, enjoying happy hour, a coffee hour and an ice cream social for Maestros.
