SEA Goes Western, Feb. 2-6, 2011

Maestros arrived at SEA, Brooksville, FL and erected the rehearsal hall  prior to the first  practice on January 29, 2011. The weather gods provided pleasant climates and at times a little too much heat.  Memories of past cold and rainy rehearsals were occasionally voiced.

Charles Marston commanded the baton and kept the musicians rehearsing Western and new tunes complimented with parts.  The group enjoyed many new arrangements by Dick Reid, trombonist.

Morning Coffee Hours were well attended by rally goers as they lingered to the end each morning.  The Full Ensemble showed their musicianship of classical, marches, show tunes and country and western tunes..

The Maestros provided entertainment during acts for the Talent Show.  Maestro vocalist Cynthia Lee took the top prize with her rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

The traditional military salute left no doubt of appreciation for the services.

Dixieland and Jazz provided the expected high level of musicality for pre evening entertainment, and the ice cream social.

A very eye catching chapter fair table welcomed rally goers at the door.  The display allowed all to see how exciting being a Frustrated Maestro can be.

Pete Eckhart, former president and music director for Eastern Sharps and Flats, was honored with a plaque for dedicated service during a morning Coffee Hour.

During the rewarding and intense week Frustrated Maestros at SEA spent a total of 17 hours in rehearsals and 10 hours in performances.  Only one Maestro played all rehearsals and events.  Keyboardist Diane Berry, and very patient roadie husband, provided keyboard “glue” for all performances.  When Diane’s music was turned in blank pages were observed.  She had played all notes right off the pages.

  Master of Ceremonies, Bob Toppe and wife Ricki enhanced the selection announcements with background research of the number.

The multitalents of Maestros surfaced in features during the performances. Space constraints limit photo displays.  However, each Maestros’s personal appearance was appreciated!

Maestros dined together on sub sandwiches before departing.
