SEA Sharps Celebrate 25 years!

SEA Sharps celebrated their Twenty-Fifth year at the Brooksville, FL 2012 Rally!

Maestros at SEA…Southeastern Area…had a new parking place. After many years in the Maestro Circle on the Hernando County airport grounds, the rehearsal tent was erected in one of the volunteer areas.

Rehearsals, business meetings, happy hours, and a pancake breakfast were in and around Rehearsal Hall.  Two days of continuous rehearsals of full ensemble, chorus, Dixie and pickers led to well prepared Maestros.  Charles Marston directed the Full Ensesmble for the second year.  Carl Turner directed the chorus.

Wednesday, Feb. 1…the Maestro lights came on early for the first of 4 morning coffee hours.

SEA Sharps marked their twenty-fifth anniversary in several ways.  Red and white balloons were tied to each motorhome.  Sandy Fuller, rally co-captain made individual buttons for each to wear.  David and Sandy Fuller were rally captains.

Opening Ceremonies prior to evening entertainment began with the national anthems of the USA and Canada.  The band played to a receptive arriving audience.

SEA Goes Hollywood, the rally theme, was enhanced by “Hooray for Hollywood.” The band provided music as rally goers arrived for entertainment.

Rally attendees in the Food Court and Coach Display were treated to Dixieland and Bluegrass Music.  Bob Hadley’s Half Fast Dixie group played in the food court.

Sea Sharps celebrated twenty-five years as a Frustrated Maestros. Narrators led the presentation to music and a slide show. Honored was a former director Al Roscoe and the band launched into his favorite of Bill Bailey.


Remembering the past came with bluegrass, harmonicas, parasols, kazoos.

The program saluted the rich history of Frustrated Maestros which began in 1981 in California by Bob Gobrecht. Starting with his tuba, Bob purchased kazoos and parasols for performances. The ‘brella idea came after a trip to Mardi Gras. When the Saints Go Marching In always brought the chorus out of their chairs for the colorful marching salute. “Thanks for the Memory” with changed words of the history of SEA Sharps ended the Anniversary Salute.

A parade emphasized ‘SEA Goes Hollywood.”  Maestro chorus members marched with kazoos and parasols while the band played on…on the sideline.

Dixieland played for the traditional ice cream social.

Tradition ended the four morning coffee hours at SEA with the Military Salute. The colors were piped in by Walter Ivey.  This unusual accompaniment was very effective for attendees and performers.
